The canal was used to transport coal from Wet Earth Colliery and joined the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal at Clifton Aqueduct. Some of the canal is still visible and it is possible to walk from Clifton Aqueduct along the canal to Clifton Country Park Visitor Centre.
